“DISTRACTIONS”
Part 2
Part 2
Today we will speak
on singleness of heart and being single-eyed. With these items, the bible
speaks positively on them and advises us to be so. They are only mentioned a
total of 5 times. The references are below:
Singleness of Heart means being free from duplicity or free from
your heart being pulled in two directions in dealing with a master or boss. It
also means a unity that is formed among one another… a oneness.
Acts 2:46 – And
they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from
house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart.
Eph 6:5 –
Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh,
with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
Col. 3:22 –
Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eye
service, as men pleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God.
Single-Eyed means being free from defect and unspotted.
Matthew 6:22 –
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole
body shall be full of light.
Luke 11:34 – The
light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, they whole
body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of
darkness.
If we are working
for someone, be committed to working together with our bosses, getting along
with co-workers, making and being at peace with friends and family, whomever…
in whatever situation… in order to united as one and to complete the task that
is set before us.
We have a common
goal. Then we must serve to the best of our ability with joy and gladness
because we are united in completing the job before us.
Just as we give our all and do our best for Jesus, we must do
our best at work or with friends and family.
We do not do our
best for reward, but because we DESERVE to give our best in
everything. Our best represents us and as a Christian we represent Christ. We
don’t want to just “look” good as if we have it all taken care of… and yet dirt
is swept under the carpet. We want to do well, do it right, and do it to
the best of our ability and we will be rewarded well and our mentality will
profit from the doing of it.
If we do things
shabbily and with dissension and aggravation, chances are that the job will not
be done, or not as well as it could have been and negative feelings will be a
result. We may be looking for a new job or new friends because we allowed
distractions of issues and discontentment to get in the way of uniting one with
another and we got distracted from completing our goals and tasks.
Be united as much as
possible… seek peace and pursue it. If there is any strife, take care of it as
quickly as possible to settle the issue. Then, be united with the
Lord and with one another. Stop the wagging of the tongues and the rolling of
the eyes, and the attitudes, but instead, show respect for our bosses,
co-workers, friends and others. When that happens, you will be surprised what
changes are made in the environment that surrounds you, but you will be
especially surprised in the changes that are made… IN YOU AND IN YOUR
RELATIONSHIPS!
